During my tenure as composer-in-residence with the Vancouver Symphony, I had the pleasure to work with the educational outreach department.  An idea was put forth to have children attending school show concerts prepare a song to sing along with the orchestra.  The only thing missing was appropriate arrangements, which I was more than happy to provide!

 

The performances of these works, which were heard by thousands of young Vancouverites, was certainly one of the most thrilling musical experiences for me - I tried my best to develop large, intense, and colourful arrangements to spark up the kids, and they responded in spades.  I'm telling you, there is nothing quite like hearing 2000 kids sing/yell Mr Sun with the orchestra wailing! It really was something to behold.
