Rhapsody for Orchestra - 1995
Premiere: Spring, 1995, Kilbourne Hall, Eastman School of Music, Rochester/New York/United States of America, Student Orchestra, Christopher Chaffe - Conductor
Rhapsody is my first work for orchestra, and as such, is exuberant and highly charged, employing many of my favorite orchestral sonorities - huge melodies, dense harmonies, wailing winds, and of course, blistering brass.
I was honoured to receive two awards for this piece - the Howard Hanson Award (1995), and also 1st place in the Winnipeg Symphony New Music Festival Composers' Competition (1996).
